As one of its strategic goals, IBBL (Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg) is dedicated to establishing numerous collaborations with a broad range of European and international partners, aiming to support the development of better healthcare solutions in Europe and beyond. An instance is the partnership with EORTC to advance cancer research and therapy.
EORTC designs and conducts clinical trials to test new treatments for the benefit of cancer patients. To improve the enrolment of patients in relevant clinical trials, it launched SPECTA, a profiling platform for patients with a variety of cancers. By gathering and analysing biological samples, clinical data and images, SPECTA matches patients to clinical trials based on their clinical characteristics and the molecular profiles of their tumours. The goal is to advance the understanding of cancer progression and recurrence, and help oncologists identify the most appropriate treatment for each patient.
As EORTC’s central biobank, IBBL supports the organisation by providing sample collection, processing, storage and logistics services. IBBL also contributes to the development of new procedures to collect and process difficult sample types.
