The International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) will be hosting its first ever Annual Meeting in Asia, from May 7th until May 10th, on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary.
The 2019 Annual Meeting in Shanghai (China) will showcase the achievements of the society and of its members, with the discussions and workshops of the conference being grouped under the common theme “Honoring Our Past, Celebrating the Present, and Envisioning our Future”. The programme includes ten symposia sessions, four contributed paper sessions, a session on innovative technologies, three special focus sessions, as well as numerous networking opportunities. Roundtable discussions around various biobanking topics, including the developments on living biobanks, will also take place.
IBBL will be represented by Alexander Hundt (Biospecimen Processing Team Leader), who will co-chair a session on the latest developments in biobanking and biospecimen research, and present the ISBER SPREC (Standard PREanalytical Code) Tool as part of a session dedicated to the incorporation of biobanking standards and best practices into methods and procedures. In parallel, Pauline Lambert will be presenting two posters on some of the IBBL team’s research work, namely “Optimization of human skin biopsies derived fibroblast culture for reprogramming into induced pluripotent stem cells” and “Use of the Cool Cell device in the cryopreservation of Viable PBMC and Buffy Coat”.
“We are looking forward to attending the meeting in Shanghai, particularly in light of the recent collaboration between IBBL, ISBER and the Biobank Branch, China Medicinal Biotech Association (BBCMBA) in the successful launch of a Biospecimen Proficiency Testing programme entirely dedicated to Chinese biobanks”, states Dr. Fay Betsou, Chief Scientific Officer at IBBL.
The 2019 Annual Meeting is organised in co-operation with the two ISBER affiliate organisations in China, namely BBCMBA and China National GeneBank (CNGB).
